Recognizing our obligation to Jews worldwide
To make a truly global impact, we work in conjunction with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI). Since 1914, the JDC has provided Jewish humanitarian assistance to those in greatest need around the world. With operations in more than 70 countries, the funding we provide JDC offers rescue and relief for Jews in distress, facilitates desperately needed social services, ensures access to quality Jewish educational programming and supports victims of disasters.
Active in 65 countries around the globe, JAFI has served as the overseas arm of North American Jewry since 1929. JAFI addresses the most pressing issues in Jewish life by working to inspire Jews throughout the world to connect with their people, heritage and land, and empowering them to build a thriving Jewish future and strong Israel.
A special relationship with the Jews of Odessa
After the fall of the Soviet Union, and to focus The Associated’s global impact more directly, we established the Baltimore-Odessa Partnership. For 70 years, Soviet oppression cut Ukrainian Jews off, not only from practicing Judaism, but also from their Jewish identity. We are working to remedy that injustice by promoting education, social services, arts and culture, leadership, volunteerism and community development initiatives in Ukraine.
