Make a Difference with Your Time and Talents

Our sages tell us, "Bishveel nashim tzidkaniot nigalu avoteinu mimitzrayim," which means, "Our forefathers were redeemed from the land of Egypt for the sake of righteous women". We can continue in the paths of our ancestors by getting involved in our own community today.

No matter your age or interests, the Women's Department has many opportunities for you to get involved.

Dor TikvahGeneration of Hope
For young women who wish to further their Jewish communal education and grow as leaders in the Jewish community, the Women's Department offers Dor Tikvah: Generation of Hope, a two-year leadership development program. The program enhances skills through:
  • Jewish education
  • Meeting planning
  • Campaign and allocation training
  • Mini-missions to ASSOCIATED agencies and programs
  • Agency board observation
  • Hands-on volunteering
  • Appointment to the Women's Department Board of Directors

Dor Tikvah participants attend ten meetings during each of their two years in the program; each meeting focuses on one of ten themes, including personal leadership styles, the Baltimore Jewish community, women and Judaism, and tikkun olam (repair of the world)—taking into account each group's individual interests and input. As future leaders of the Jewish community, members of Dor Tikvah are also asked to make an Annual Campaign contribution.

As they are exposed to many areas of the Jewish community, members are encouraged to create a personal leadership track. Many Dor Tikvah graduates then go on to become leaders of THE ASSOCIATED and its agencies and throughout the Jewish community.

To get involved in Dor Tikvah, contact Pam Martin at 410-369-9201, or  pmartin@associated.org.

Jewish Professional Women's Initiative
The Jewish Professional Women's Initiative has attracted a vast array of professional women— from lawyers and judges to doctors and teachers. We welcome women who wish to share their intellect and time with other women, to network—both personally and professionally—to mentor others or seek mentors themselves, and to actively engage in tikkun olam (repair of the world) through fulfilling volunteer projects. Programs include special sessions on careers, relationships, health, education, community and spirituality, as well as Jewish study groups and a career mentoring program with schoolchildren.

Ashkelon Partnership
Make a Personal Connection with Ashkelon! This newly launched program allows women and their families in Baltimore to be matched with another women and her family in Ashkelon in hopes of forming direct personal relationships between the families and, in turn, the cities.

If you are interested in filling out the application to be matched with a woman or family Ashkelon, please visit www.associated.org/penpal or contact Yael Shmookler at yshmookler@associated.org or 410-369-9251.

Bookworms
After another successful year, the Bookworms are at it again!  As part of an ongoing partnership with Federal Hill Preparatory School, Jewish Volunteer Connection and the Associated Women have joined together and are gearing up for another exciting year of enhancing the lives of students by reading in classrooms and donating books to the school. Each month, the Bookworms carpool leaves from the Chizuk Amuno Congregation parking lot to Federal Hill Preparatory School to read books to the students. Keep your eyes open for the Bookworms schedule at www.associated.org/jvc.
