Students Taking Action for Change (STAC)

This is a collaborative program of Jewish Volunteer Connection, in partnership with the Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC). STAC is a nine-month program beginning in the fall for high school sophomores and juniors. The program focuses on social justice and advocacy, while teens learn the tools to be agents of change.
As a STAC Fellow, you will be part of an inspiring and innovative advocacy and social justice program and can look forward to these existing opportunities:
- Learning to advocate for your community and beliefs
- Implementing advocacy and social justice initiatives to tackle major issues
- Training with experts in the field on lobbying, the political process and organizations working to better the world
- Exploring possible solutions to community problems
- Meeting local and state leaders
- Gaining leadership experience
- Building relationships with a diverse group of teens
- Serving as a teen representative at the Baltimore Jewish Council’s Advocacy Day
Requirements to become a STAC Fellow:
- Be a Jewish teen entering 10th or 11th grade during the 2012-2013 school year.
- Live in the Greater Baltimore area

STAC program components:
- Opening all-day Teen Leadership Retreat on Sunday, August 26th
- Nine leadership development seminars on Sunday evenings from 5:30-8:00 p.m.
- Overnight retreat in the fall at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills Jewish Community Center.
- Baltimore Jewish Council’s Advocacy Day in Annapolis
- Social justice and advocacy initiatives together with other STAC Fellows
- Closing program for teens and parents in May 2013
Cost of STAC program:
Students Taking Action for Change is generously sponsored by THE ASSOCIATED’s Jewish Volunteer Connection, in partnership with the Baltimore Jewish Council. The subsidized cost per participant is $495.
Program fees help defray administration and program costs. Limited financial aid is available.
