Meet Deborah and Eric

In many ways, Deborah and Eric Lowy are part of a new generation of young Baltimore Jews, who are choosing to live in the city over the suburbs.

For them, the city means walking distance to parks and restaurants, a shorter commute to work, meeting new Jewish families and finding identity in contemporary Jewish programming.

The Lowys, who grew up in northwest Baltimore, moved downtown after living in various cities around the country. Shortly after arriving, they connected with Rabbi Jessy Gross of Charm City Tribe, meeting other Jewish couples at Pot Luck Shabbats, Happy Hours and holiday events. After their son was born, the family joined the Downtown Baltimore JCC; Deborah took her son to Hello Baby and Infant Massage.

“Although we were born and raised here, Baltimore is new again for us. Being downtown, we are connecting with new people,” says Deborah. Adds Eric: “We are meeting other Jewish families in a similar position to us.”
