11 Things You May Not Know About Mallory Tarschis, Owner of Betsy Robinson’s Bridal

Mallory Tarschis

We recently had a private walkthrough and chat with Owner Mallory Tarschis of the fabulous bridal boutique, Betsy Robinson’s. At only twenty-six years old she is taking the bridal industry by storm and bringing her own new style to the shop. Mallory is actively involved in the Associated young adult division which has helped her to broaden her community in Baltimore.

Here are 11 things to know about Mallory:

You grew up in Ohio, how did you learn about The Associated and what made you want to get involved?

While I was doing my undergrad at the University of Cincinnati, I learned about The Associated from Etz Chaim, a program that combines social programs and relevant educational experiences for anyone on their Jewish journey. Once I moved to Baltimore, I quickly learned the term “Smalltimore” when I found out I had a friend from college who worked at The Associated. She connected me to all the different Associated events, and I am now getting involved more with IMPACT, The Associated’s young adult division.

Why do you think it’s important to get involved in the Jewish community in which you live and work?

I think it’s important to get involved in the Jewish community because the community that I grew up in gave so much to me. I went to Jewish overnight camp, I participated in BBYO, and I even participated in a local cotillion ball. It’s important to give back to the faith and identity that is so much of who I am today.

How would you describe the perfect wedding?

The perfect wedding would be free of stress – allowing the bride and groom to take in the moment and really enjoy it. Someone told me for my wedding “hold hands with your significant other and don’t let go” otherwise someone is going to pull you this way and that way and you’ll end up spending the night separately. But your wedding day is about the love you share for each other so it’s important to spend it together.

How would you describe your style?

My style is more fun and colorful.

What is your typical day in the office?

Every day is different but of course super busy. I see a lot of brides and their friends and family members a day. I get the opportunity to meet a variety of people and hear their personal stories. I also spend time talking to the designers, coordinating alterations and deciding what dresses to buy to bring into the store. And of course, there’s always the administrative part of my job.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to go into the medical field but quickly learned that I am too squeamish. Truthfully, I didn’t really know what I wanted to be. When I moved to Baltimore, I started working at Betsy Robinson’s Bridal and when the opportunity presented itself for me to take over the business, I jumped on it. This opportunity taught me that taking smart risks in life is so important because you may otherwise miss out on great opportunities.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

I can’t live without friends and family, and my cats.

What advice would you give a young female who wants to start their own business?

I would say take a leap of faith. Trust your successes and do not question your intuitions because usually, it will lead you to where you are supposed to be.

What was your background that helped get you to where you are today?

I have a bachelor’s degree in communications and I minored in entrepreneurship. The main thing needed to be successful in this industry is you must love it. You have to love all things bridal because owning a business becomes almost like your child that you have to take care of and devote much of your time and attention to.

As a business owner, what do you do to prioritize your self-care?

I make sure to take one day off a week. During my off days, I try to not schedule doctors’ appointments or administrative work so that way I can focus on really relaxing and doing the things I really enjoy like taking a pool day or doing hot yoga.

What’s something you and your husband like to do in Baltimore?

We are both big foodies, so we love going out to eat and for drinks at new restaurants in the area. My favorite restaurant that we have gone to recently is Pierces Plantation which is an Indian restaurant. We are always looking for recommendations!
