Lessons from the Holocaust with the Baltimore Jewish Council and the Jewish Museum of Maryland | Beth Goldsmith

It has been less than eighty years since the Holocaust. Eighty years since 6 million Jews were murdered. Eighty years since antisemitic rhetoric and hate speech spiraled into one of the most tragic events in human history. Less than 80 years later, we see antisemitism rising at an alarming rate, and it is happening right here in the United States.

This is a growing crisis, one that we have seen at the national and local level, with antisemitic incidents hitting an all-time high, according to the Anti-Defamation League. Here at home, reported antisemitic incidents have increased by 98% in Maryland, making it the 10th highest state in number of incidents reported.

The Associated, through its system of agencies and particularly the Baltimore Jewish Council and Jewish Museum of Maryland, have continued to combat antisemitism through advocacy, security reform and Holocaust education programs, just to name a few. All of these have had an impact, but the fight is not over.

That is why Beth H. Goldsmith sat down with Howard Libit, executive director of the Baltimore Jewish Council and Annmarie Fournier, a teacher at Anne Arundel County Schools who participated in JMM’s Holocaust Education workshops, to shine a spotlight on these efforts and the lasting effects it has had on our community, in Baltimore and beyond.

If you have seen or experienced an antisemitic incident, report it at associated.org/report.

The Associated has joined The Foundation to Combat Antisemitism to #StandUpToJewishHate. Learn how you can join this nation-wide initiative and stop antisemitism.
